Railway Fields is set to have its pond restored, thanks to a Lottery grant of nearly £40,000.
The pond needs to be relined with clay to prevent it drying up. The water level has dropped by a metre in the last two years, and experts fear the population of frogs, toads and newts will be lost unless repair work is carried out.
National wildlife charity Amphibian and Reptile Conservation will carry out the project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The charity is also looking for residents to set up a friends group to help look after the nature reserve in future.
