Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone,

My puppy will be ready for socialization group classes in about 1 month's time once his vaccinations are complete.  I have found out about a few classes but none of them are local enough or are quite what i'm looking for in terms of the set-up.

If anyone has any recommendations (specifically Puppy Socialization, not adult dog groups) i'd be so grateful.  I am very good and experienced at dog training but previously lived in another area with my dear old boy who died 2 years ago. My 8week old pup's already learning a lot in his 1st week with me and responds well to my training so the classes can either be a training group or purely puppy-mixing fun group.

Thanks for any tips, fellow dog owners.

Hi - there are some excellent classes by Penaran Higgs, the Pet Shrink in Crouch End: http://www.londondogforum.co.uk/penaran-higgs-i14.html

You can take pups there after their first vaccinations so as to catch the socialisation window of opportunity which closes at 12 weeks... I would suggest you start as soon as possible. 8 weeks is a great age to start! Good luck! Vicky www.happydogsandcats.co.uk

Yes i've been in touch with Penaran, she is really lovely!  It's not so easy for me to travel over to their location so that's why i was hoping for something with better transport links / foot distance. As i live near Seven Sisters National Rail station i was even thinking i could find a class maybe in Hackney Downs or London Fields.... But i don't suppose anyone here knows about anything going on in those areas.

I do feel strongly he shouldn't mix until 1-2 weeks after his final vaccination though, as recommended by our breeder and vet, just our personal view on the immunity matter. Thank you very much for your reply , much appreciated Vicky :)

Maybe a little far for you to travel but we attended our vet's sessions - we found them really useful and enjoyable and the socialisation did wonders for our pup.

Hey thanks, i looked into their puppy groups, they only run in Islington or Highgate (not actually in Hornsey where the main vet surgery is.) Thanks tho :)

As you probably know there are dog training classes in Finsbury Park on Sunday mornings.  The trainer is very nice and helpful and I am sure will be able to suggest something.

Thanks Marian, yes i've heard about those dog meets, run by Alpha Dog Training Club. They hold puppy groups in Canonbury, Highgate and Camden so not really close enough for us. The finsbury park meets are for adult dogs. Will continue my search :)

There are puppy groups at branches of www.villagevet.co.uk

Hey thanks for the tip, unfortunately none of their practices are near enough - altho the closest one is in Highbury which i guess isn't too bad . I'll have a look into it, thank you!

Try Finsbury park on Sunday mornings, the hut near to the Manor House gate

Yes thanks, Marian also suggested that, that's run by Alpha Dog Training for adult dogs. Their puppy meetings are elsewhere (further away) Thanks though Terri.
