Hey people.
Just posting to see if anyone else has had issues during the recent works. We are "lineside neighbours". Electrification has meant the installation of a huge, ugly galvanized steel fence at the bottom of our garden.
To make matters worse (and this is really the point in this post) the contractors have made a pigs ear of the job - the fence is set back from the original boundary, and as the ground was not properly levelled before installation the fence sits significantly higher behind our garden than it does behind neighbouring gardens.
Additionally the position of the new fence and removal of the original fence has left gaps in the fences with neighbouring gardens.
There is also a problem with rubbish on the embankment, from my point of view this is a secondary issue but I know some people are upset about it and recent works have exacerbated the issue).
I have contacted network rail via their "helpline"/website but haven't managed to get any sense out of them, they are effectively denying that there is an issue.
Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar issue, any advice welcomed.

There was a discussion back in November about the same issue, here:

Great dissatisfaction about exactly the same problem.
Better be quick, the full-on closure finishes on the 26th, after that there are only weekend closures (mostly) to change the fence if you can persuade Network Rail that their fence isn't what they told you it was going to be and must therefore be changed. And the project is way delayed which is down to Network Rail, so unless you're very effective you may well disappear off Network Rail's snagging list, sorry.
Hi Ben, no I'm on Oakdale Road. I don't like the fence (it's not popular with the neighbours either) but I accept that security is an issue with electrification so I'm not surprised that that's what went up. In general people here seem to grudgingly have accepted it.
We have a particular issue with it being especially high directly behind our house, due to the changing slope of the embankment. Network rail so far have simply denied that it's an issue and/or ignored my contact...
I'll have a look at the other discussion now.
Extract from Tom's post on the other, older thread -
"I would be very interested to hear about other people's experiences communicating with them. I previously posted an email address for the communications manager for Gospel Oak to Barking Electrification, I'd urge more people to get in touch with her in the hope that there's strength in numbers...
Here it is again: Lara.Correia@networkrail.co.uk
Similarly if anyone has any other contact info - please share."
My neighbour has an email from Network Rail in which they promised the fence would be green, which clearly it isn't. Since they've broken this promise, perhaps they might be persuaded to finish the site properly with some climbers etc.
I expect maintainance to be an ongoing issue. There is a newish signal box beside the new fence at the bottom of our garden, which quickly became, and remains, covered in graffiti. Looks lovely. But the land is their land and they will not encourage anyone to go on it for maintenance, gardening or otherwise.
There are 2 community relations teams for the GOBLIN line refurbishment and they don't talk to one another! The Network Rail general enquiry / complaint passed me through to one GOBLIN community relations team who declined to accept the validity of a letter sent by a separate community relations team that said that the fence would be a green powder coated palisade fence (happy to share the letter if you would like a copy). At present I am awaiting a response from this team.
Mind you, I am not expecting to get much in response - just don't like their attitude. I am now investigating climbing plants etc - any recommendations?
