Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Rihab Azar (Oud) And Ant Romero (Percussion)

A journey through rich rhythms and varied musical modes traversing classical and contemporary Arabic music from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Tunisia and Turkey. It’s all happening at the third Sunday Pop Up Proms in Waterlow Park featuring two talented and eclectic young musicians.

Rihab Azar was born in Homs, Syria. She has been recognized by the Arts Council as a musician of exceptional promise, allowing her to stay in the UK as a ‘migrant talent’.

Ant Romero is from Spain and studied at the Royal Conservatory Manuel de Falla. He has now broadened his musical repertoire to encompass first Turkish and then other Middle Eastern music, always with a touch of flamenco from his Spanish roots.

Both have performed widely, Rihab, notably as the first female oudist with the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music, and Ant with many international names including with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. They will perform together in the north pavilion, Waterlow Park, near the statue of Sir Sydney at 2.30pm Sunday 21 August.

The last week of the Pop Up Proms (28 August) will be devoted to jazz and feature London Jazz Festival favourite, saxophonist James Akers with his fellow musicians in the James Akers Trio, Nigel Price on Hammond organ and Jack Yardley on drums.

Pop Up Proms 2022, Waterlow Park, North Shelter, 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Sundays in August. FREE.
