Police exclusion tape across Stanhope Garden and active search

Police outside in Stanhope actively searching for something/someone, stopping cars and searching, blue lights flashing. What's going on?

I saw the guy who’d been stabbed (?) and he seemed okay. Looked like a Turkish guy or definitely Mediterranean looking anyway.

Um why is that relevant?

Thanks Lydia and Penguin. It was all going on right in front of my place so a bit worrying. A gang of young men were talking/debating with the police for a while, a couple with bright orange football shirts on.  I was worried something was going to kick off as they didn't look happy. I did see a young man put into the police van in handcuffs then so they caught the culprit I guess. Glad to hear the guy that was stabbed is ok. Let's hope things calm down. Stanhope Gardens has had a lot going on this summer.

Police and tape were there till the early hours Lydia but it was quiet.

There has been blatant drug taking and selling on the corner/top of Stanhope and Green Lanes plus a few burglaries that end and a lot of rubbish, fly tipping.

Orange football shirts - Galatasray played that night and lost 4-0. Also Wolves were at West Ham and also play in orange. Did they have Black Country accents?

I wasnt on the street to hear accents. Saw from my window which was just where the police/police tape and the young men were gathering. It wasn't Wolves strip but Galatasray.

It looks like the blood is still there this morning at 10.45 - surely it’s not good practice to leave blood on the pavement on a busy street?

NB - this is blood on the pavement on Green Lanes near Stanhope, with blue police tapes hanging over it

3 days on- it looks like it's not going to be cleaned up. Perhaps blood is no longer longer cleaned up after a crime as a matter of course.

"If you need to report the clean up of blood from the highway please call:

  • Veolia Call Centre: 020 8885 7700 - during office hours
  • Out of Hours service: 020 8489 0000 - evenings/weekends"

I'm not in Harringay at the moment so I don't know what it looks like now - maybe someone could ring and see what happens? But I can't believe that they haven't already had it reported on Sunday morning.

Thanks Lydia... walked past what must've been the next morning... with my wife, and also my 1 year old in his pram, and had to step around blood soaked items and blood on the ground, as the tape had all fallen down, so wasn't clear something was there... I can't believe there would be no one there to watch the area if they still had to do some work on it!

If the police tape is still there it means they have not yet forensicated the scene (photos, swabs, other evidence). Once they have done so the blood can be cleaned. If there was another incident it may be that our stretched public services cannot yet send the scenes of crime experts needed. Once the police have done their job the council can clean up.

I don't think that was what happened in this case. The Police tape did not cover the whole crime scene (it was just hanging off the wall) & I think it was more likely that something had gone wrong either with the Police's contacts with Veolia or at the Veolia end.

Apparently this is not the only incident with blood this week, and Police Officers in the borough have been reminded about the procedures for contacting Veolia.

It's worth noting that blood is a very well know infection risk, and should not be left on the pavement.
