Crowds of children enjoyed the launch of their new garden at The Ladder Children’s Centre, in Pemberton Road, Harringay, on Saturday.
Parents spent the last 18 months helping to raise more than £16,000 for the play area, which also includes vegetable, herbs and fruit beds, a sensory play boat, a jungle garden and a mural for children’s drawings.
Some of the money was awarded through various funding streams.
Garden designer Nemone Mercer said: “I wanted the children to be able to get their hands dirty sowing, growing and eating their own fruits and vegetables.
“It’s brilliant to see how the garden is now maturing and impacting on people’s lives.”
She was inspired to start the project after seeing some trees vandalised in Green Lanes two years ago - believing that “a love of nature needs to start at a very young age”.
