Pensioners attacked at Harringay Station for having no cigarettes
Police are appealing for information after two men were punched in an apparently unprovoked attack at Harringay rail station, for not having a cigarette.
British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assaults, which took place on August 28.
On the day of the attacks, a 69-year-old local man was crossing the footbridge at the station around 1.25pm when he was approached by a man and asked for a cigarette.
The victim, who had no cigarettes, refused and the man punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor, before making his way along the footpath and punching another man, a 60-year-old, in the side of the head.
The first victim was left with cuts to the side of his head and a grazed knee, while the 60-year-old was uninjured.
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting background reference B10/LNA of 07/09/2012. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Having lived in N4 for over 9 years (mainly around Blackstock Mountgrove), but Harringay for past 2.5 yrs, I would just like to say how outraged I am by this attack.
I have lived in some rough places, particulalrly when I was a student in the early 90's, but have never lived in an environment where pensioners get hit at LUNCHTIME???
I have encountered many unsavoury characters since moving to Harringay, fortunately I think I am "street-wise" enough to deal with such folk.
I work for a Local Authority, and we have installed CCTV with much better picture quality than this, and storage is not an issue.

The image quality is especially disappointing because its broad daylight and the presumed assailant is not wearing a hood and he is facing the camera, if not looking directly at it. The cap and the sweat shirt would themselves be distinctive enough, if only the resolution was better.
It's for purely technical reasons that this character is not able to be identified easily.
As for possible data storage limits, nowadays, hard drive space is cheap. And images don't need to be stored indefinitely, they can be overwritten after a given period, in the same way that aircraft voice recorders keep conversion only during the last 30 minutes or so.
The entire pre-fab railway station is long overdue for a replacement.

This 69-year old gave up smoking on 1st September 1968 for good of my health. I've just bought a 20-pack for same reason. More practical than discussing vague resolution or longing for Harringay Station to be re-personned all day. Relieved though that nobody's yet used that ubiquitous cliché grainy. Good to see that SEE LI got it all off his chest, I think. Pent-up outrage is worse for health than smoking.

It's not grainy, but, as stated on the T shirt, it's suffering from cross hatch.
Maybe you can buy T shirts that incorporate a cross-hatching device to defeat CCTV images ?
Would it work on speed cameras ?

Eddie, addiction to nicotine can be a powerful thing and a withdrawal symptom can be irritability. But I think that this character might have assaulted pensioners even if he had asked for the time and they didn't have a watch. Grainy is a function of film grain and so isn't relevant here. Hope the offender is caught before he takes a swipe at another pensioner.
