Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone got any info as to what the cause of the blackout was on much of Pemberton yesterday? It went off mid afternoon, teased us by flickeing on and off throughout the evening and finally came back on at 11.45pm- I know this because my bedroom light came back on and woke me up!

It seemed to take a lot of the houses out on the street.

While we are at it, can anyone explain the way phasing works- ie why only certain houses are affected by a powercut at any time?

Three Phase:

electric power is distributed on  3 live wires ( call them X.Y.Z) plus 1 neutral wire. Without going into the maths, this requires smaller cables than if a single phase system were used. A single house will be fed with one of the lives plus the neutral. To balance the load, a third of the houses will be fed from Live X, one third from Live Y and one third from Live Z  So Pemberton must have lost one ( possibly two ) of the phases.

Aha! Makes sense. Thanks.
