Party wall fence?
The brick wall that separates my front garden from my neighbours is wobbly, does anyone know if this is a joint responsibility (I live on the ladder), and anyone have any idea how much it should cost to have it knocked down, footings dug and the wall rebuilt. Its fairly standard, at a guess about 10 ft long and 2'6" high with a 4" 6" pillar, single brick thick.

If you have the deeds to your property then it should be highlighted on them.

Usually it seems to work out that you are responsible for the boundary fences on one side but not the other, and you can tell by which side the posts are on. But, depending on your relationship with your neighbours, my experience is if you want it done you'll end up paying for it yourself, no matter who it officially "belongs " to.

This is always a bit mystifying to me. I was once told that if you can see the struts on the back of the fence (ie the less attractive bit, the stuff that keeps it up) then that fence is your responsibility. If you can just see the front then it probably isn't. But I know from my own garden this isn't always true, so I'd certainly check your deeds if you have them.
I tried for ages to get my neighbours to contribute towards the back fence between us that had fallen down and in the end had to pay for it myself.

Shouldn't it be that the person who pays for it gets the nicer side i.e the "front"?

I have always been told that you are responsible for the wall/fence on the right when you look from your building. That definitely worked for my back garden (the other owner wouldn't have put up a new fence if I was wrong)

How confusing: I have always been told that I'm responsible for the LEFT side, looking from the building, and that has worked so far, on both sides.

This has long mystified me. I'd always understood it was the fence on the left. You're also supposed to be able to tell from the Title Plan. My Title Deed says I'm responsible for the fences on the boundaries marked with a ' T '. Annoyingly there is no ' T ' marked anywhere, even on a pristine copy downloaded from the Land Registry.
Anyone on Hewitt have any clues / older plans?
