Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My residents parking permit expires on 11/11/2021 I booked an appointment at Marcus Garvey to renew my paper permit confirmed at the time of making appointment this was possible. On arrival was informed this was not possible because if I renewed now it would be considered as a 2nd car. When I queried what would happen if I was on holiday when permit expired no answer but obviously I would be issued with parking fines. I believe this is a deliberate plan to obtain as much money as they can by having a system that is not functional.

That’s incorrect! I’m certain it is as I helped another resident sort out her permit who started it too soon. Can you email me please with a phone number and we’ll get this sorted out!

My email address is Seema.Chandwani@haringey.gov.uk

Thank you for your response I have sent a paper application with cheque payment apparently this is being dealt with in Sheffield so a I am hoping it will be processed by the time my present permits expiry date. Your comment that its incorrect was surprising as I was advised by 3 members of staff that I could not renew at that point. Perhaps the staff need re training.

Hi KJ,

I raised with the team today and showed them your post. They seem to agree with me that you can do this.

Can you email me with a phone number so the Customer Services manager can sort this all out, and get your permit. My email is Seema.Chandwani@haringey.gov.uk

Seema

Thank you for your response I sent the form off to Sheffield they have returned it saying I need to send documentation which I had produced at Customer Services and was advised they had logged it and did not need to send. Went onto website to see if I could do this on line got to the part where you confirm when you want permit to start unable to do this must do it on expiry of paper permit. It also indicated the permit would be for St Anns my present permit is Seven Sisters. I obtained Estate parking just in case I had problems. On this issue whilst I was in Customer services and requested Estate Parking I was handed a permit with my address someone else name and it was for the Ferry Lane Estate pointed this out to staff then I was issued with correct permit. In the post yesterday I received 2 permits 1 was the Ferry Lane Estate one obviously nobody had bothered to check or cancel and another Estate Parking permit, Two separate envelopes what a waste hence my comment the Staff need training.

KJ, if you wish for me to investigate then please email. I’ve not heard from you since my offer, but glad it’s somewhat sorted.

I was informed that from August all resident and visitor permits are virtual and are done online. This is more confusing, are they virtual or not?

Homes for Haringey permits are NOT online. Only CPZs

Council Estates are not on public roads, they are legally defined as private roads

Thank you for clarifying Seema. However my understanding is homes for Haringey is contracted by Haringey. They do not own the properties and in fact current consultation may mean they are brought back into Haringey control. If homes ie council estates run by homes for haringey have remained with using paper permits why can’t all of haringey. As you have seen the comments made in this forum clearly show that residents do not like this system. Certainly it has caused issues in the 3 months with computer errors confusion and difficulties for those who can’t use a computer. Haringey should re think this.

As someone who lives on a Homes for Haringey estate, I wish their board agreed to go virtual. It’s wrong we have to go to the library, send in documents etc. It’s also wrong on safety grounds that my car has my road name in the window. (I don’t drive or have a car btw)

But an ALMO means the Board of HfH make a decision, not the council. I hope the residents do say in the consultation they want it back under council control. I submitted my consultation response and I can be open about it as I can’t vote on final decision due to conflict of interest

In regards to the online permits system, 13,000+ residents have successfully used it since it came out on Aug 2nd. That’s roughly the same as last year and year before on the old system. Every system will have its teething problems and there will be some who don’t like it. But most certainly not a majority, this site has about 30 people with comments… out of 13,000.

KJ was about HfH permits. In fact if HfH were on the virtual system, he wouldn’t have had these problems. And it doesn’t sound like you’ve used it…

That’s not to say views and experiences aren’t important, it’s my job however to put them in perspective. As with the case above, it wasn’t the IT that was the problem but wrong advice which is being looked into

Scratch cards will be available for those who cannot or do not have access to technology.

I agree that having your street name on car is not a good idea. I also agree that putting things in perspective is good and having views. However there are roughly 250,000 haringey residents which say around 120,000 are eligible for permits. 13,000 is not a correct view of residents. Also comparing with last 2 years during a pandemic when half of that people didn’t need permits is not a true reflection on views. Yes 30 odd on here equally isn’t a view. Why did haringey not publicise like they did with the LTN on sign posts, leaflets asking people their views? I never heard of this until you told me in regards to virtual companion badges. And how much did this system cost us? Haringey needs to think again the way it does things. Shame I’m sick otherwise I would be running for Cllr and campaigning to change haringey …with respect
