Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Did anyone else know that Haringey council are proposing to change the parking permits scheme? According to the proposals the Two hour permits will go, the concessionary age will rise from 60 to 65. They have given 21 days from 2 February for objections yet if I didn’t go to order some visitors permits would not have known. See photo below. Why has Haringey council not advertised this earlier or sent out leaflet? Once again Haringey are sneaking new rules quickly before anyone notices..disgusting!!!

Why yes, yes they did. The discussion has been raging all day but not with as good a heading as yours.

They should have put leaflets out as I never saw anything. It’s funny when they wanted people to buy the brown bin for garden they put leaflets out twice..I’m disgusted the cost on a one hour permit will be 80p when now the 2 hour is 70p what happens to people who have different carers coming everyday..the cost is going to be high

Ummm.... no, that's really, really cheap compared to the private market. Seen this website?

That's not the only change that I objected to.

On top of that:

1) The current 2-hour Visitor Permits allow visitors who wish to stay a few hours to avoid displaying an awkward number of permits, hence they are very convenient and I don't see any reason to discontinue them. Therefore I objected to their discontinuation.

2) The price of 1-hour Visitor Permits has a proposed increase of more than double (from 35p to 80p), which I find very hard to justify, especially considering that the maximum number of permits per household would be lifted. Also, the new price increase doesn't correspond to an equal improvement of the service itself. I understand the Council's intention to encourage using other forms of transport, but such a steep increase in price is only penalising those who cannot do otherwise. For these reasons, I objected to such a rise in price.

3) I objected to the proposal of not being able to use visitors permits acquired in previous years. Such a proposal goes against any rational thinking, like saying that clothes, once purchased, expire after a few months. The Council is slow in issuing visitor parking permits (days by post, or hours queuing, which is not always possible) therefore it is often useful to have a few spare ones at home. It would be different if they could be purchased on-line and printed straight away, but this is not the case. Furthermore, given that resident parking permits can be refunded in case residents leaving the area, the same principle should apply to visitor parking permits.

I totally agree with you. Has anyone done a petition against this? I would be more than happy to sign it

You can submit an objection, Nick. See at the bottom of the post I started yesterday.

Thank you Hugh. I only noticed yesterday when trying to buy some. What about disabled people who have carers visit. At the moment only one permenant essential permit is lowed so we tend to give carers permits as we have so many different carers. The cost to sick people is high enough let alone now. I also am disgusted that Haringey have sneaked this in. Where are the leaflets delivered to each house? Funny how several have come regarding the brown bin which they can’t force you to buy where as permits are essential especially for sick people

Yes there's nothing thats defensible about this. It will hit those least able to afford it hardest. I imagine this explains why they're trotting out such nonsense to try and rationalise it.

I would encourage anyone who doesn't like the chnge to submit an objection.

I have and will ask my neighbours to do so . I’m so angry because it seems to me that the proposed changes is just for Haringey to raise funds and not to benefit the borough. Just a quick note, thank you for always supplying information and helping residents Hugh because I do find it difficult at times due to poor health. Your posts are always informative in many avenues. Cheers mate.

Thanks Hugh, I didn't know about this change and I have submitted an objection.

Hadn't heard about this and have put on our local Facebook page. Thanks for the heads up.

Make sure you include the email address to send in objections.
