Damn. I was going there later to fill up. It was there until about 2 weeks ago. Now no local petrol stations in or near Hornsey. Almost forced to use supermarkets.
Last time I looked, the tiny independent petrol station on Stapleton Hall Road, by the Parkland Walk railway bridge, was still there - that's reasonably close. There's also the BP garage at the Hornsey Rise/Hornsey Lane junction, only around half a mile from the Park Road site. Admittedly a chain, but not a supermarket.
As for rebuilding versus redevelopment, it's a temptingly large site within sight of central Crouch End - even bigger if the neighbouring car sales business is included. But I wonder if it will include a bigger shop/small supermarket, like the Co-op shop/garage setup by the Ferme Park Road roundabout in Hornsey.
Not closed - being redeveloped by Shell.
see planning application from May - HGY/2015/1381 Redevelopment of existing filling station including new pumps and new forecourt canopy. http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/Applica...
Addendum also HGY/2015/2699 . No idea how long it will take. Very pleased it is not gone - it has been there ever since i started driving in 1971 at least.
They have a big sign up saying they will reopen soon.
The service will be bigger and better with faster equipment and more food on sale.
This is a good example of innovation and enterprise by the private sector. The Texaco petrol station in Tottenham Lane in Crouch end is always busy with food shoppers. They extend the queue when I'm in a hurry to pay for petrol!
Shopping only gets better in Crouch End and London with more late night shopping at petrol stations!
