OrganicLea set to take over Wolves Lane

Organic produce cooperative OrganicLea is set to take over the running of Wolves Lane Horticultural Centre – bringing volunteering opportunities; the chance to learn new skills, and a community “veg box” scheme to local residents.

OrganicLea has more than 20 years’ experience running similar schemes, including in neighbouring Waltham Forest, and is committed to ensuring Wolves Lane thrives as a focal point of the local community.

The cooperative will work with Haringey-based partner Crop Drop on the veg box scheme, and the council and OrganicLea are now working towards a 25-year lease agreement to bring a secure future to Wolves Lane.

The council has managed Wolves Lane since 2009, with the site used to grow plants and flowers for the borough’s parks, as well as hosting school visits and adult learning classes.

With government cuts to the council’s budget meaning a fall in funding, it was agreed by Haringey’s cabinet that a third-party organisation would be best placed to make the best use of Wolves Lane and maintain it as a community asset. 

The council’s plant growing facility will be relocated to Finsbury Park.

It is expected OrganicLea will take possession of the site on 1 April 2017 with a 25 year lease.
