Organic Milk and Dairy products on Green Lanes and surrounding area?

Hello neighbours,

I am trying to wean myself off supermarket shopping, in the hope of supporting independents better. This is fine with fruti and veg and most dried and non-edible goods -we're so lucky to live near Green lanes!

However, I struggle to find organic milk and other dairy products- yoghurt, cheese, eggs etc. Does anyone knnow of any local shops which are not Sainsburys or tesco etc, who stock these?

If not, I'd be interested in pulling together support to try and persuade one of the shops to!

thanks

Shilpa

Great. Would like to support them.

But would love somewhere I can pop in anytime too

TFM (the grocers on Green Lanes at the end of Umfreville Road) sometimes -but not always- have organic eggs in stock. I bought some there last week.

I've not seen anywhere that does organic milk apart from Sainsburys. And beyond feta and halloumi, there is not much cheese, organic or non-organic on offer on Green Lanes. Although Baldwins have some nice parmesan. They might be worth checking with and asking about increasing the cheese offerings of the area- I am a veggie so I don't often find myself in there.

Baldwins does both organic and free range eggs. And free range chickens (the fantastic Label Anglais and Sutton Hoo usually). And duck eggs. But not organic chickens. Maybe they could be persuaded to get organic milk?

We also get our milk delivered. Used to get the organic until it proved both prohibitively expensive and fattening, so just get the ordinary now (which still tastes fantastic). Dairy Crest provide the logistics I think but the actual milk comes from a farm not far away - details here

Not organic but Al Fath stock a range of french cheeses

Our milkman delivers us organic milk and eggs; may even do more organic produce. I think he's Dairy Crest but not sure.

It is good to support the independents for sure but I sometimes wonder/worry where some of the fruit and veg on Green Lanes comes from. It's not always labelled and certainly I don't see 'organic' flagged up at all in my local ones. I worry that whilst I make sure to buy non- GMO soya milk etc in Sainsburys, I am ending up buying all sorts of unknown stuff in the local fruit and veg places.

It may well not be organic but a lot of the fruit and veg on Green Lanes comes from Cyprus, and the staff in the shops often know (and are often related to) the farmers.

Good. Thanks for that.

Dostlar, at the bottom of Cavendish Road has organic eggs. Pretty sure I've seen them in Yassar Halim too. We get our organic milk and organic plain yoghurt delivered by the Dairy Crest milkman. Organic cheese more difficult (we also try to stay out of sainsburys as much as poss!) - we split our shopping between an organic box/bag shceme and buying non-organic locally on Green Lanes.

Must check out the Harringay Market again though!
