Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi - does anyone know what is happening with the land on the corner of West Green Road and Caversham Road? Haven't heard anything about it recently.

believe the woodlands park residents association was heavily involved in this, perhaps contact them?

ANSWER ~ more cheap badly designed, imposed and out-of-character housing !! :(

"Redevelopment of the site involving construction of a single block of 3 to 4 storeys comprising 43 residential units with 511 sqm ground floor commercial / retail unit(s) and associated access, parking, cycle parking, landscaping and associated works."

Woodlands Park residents had anything to do with it as they cleared the whole site yestoday with bulldozers including the lovely palm trees and other mature shrubs and trees.

I've been on the council planning portal and searched 308 West Green Road and found that its planned housing (surprise surprise) . 4 storeys of ugly housing. You can view the very ominous planning page here . Scroll to the bottom to view the .pdf's with elevation drawings etc.

I've attached a pic of the West Green Road elevation.

I thought that new Sainsbury's was placed in an awfully awkward spot on West Green but now it all makes sense!!!!!! Well done Haringey council, the gentrification / generic plans for the Borough are coming along thick and fast.

What is this obsession with 'retail units', one of this biggest industries in decline, high roads closing and ghosting, but every development we have needs a retail unit underneath? For what? To house more Wiliam hills and money shops......

I know !! You may not know the street, but there's a road called Bedford Road (the best road in N15 in my opinion), with beautiful late Georgian houses very well kept, with the highest house prices in the whole area. About 2 years ago, a block of ugly out-of-place flats were built on the southern end of the road with retail units along the bottom. 2 years later and they're still boarded up with 'To Let' signs everywhere.  It's baffles me that anyone thought it was a good idea to put retail units on a beautiful residential street (so close to West Green Road shops etc).  It's a complete disaster.  We can be sure that the new flats going up will either remain empty or have, as you say, betting and pawn shops move in. WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THESE BRUTAL AND DESTRUCTIVE ACTIONS ON OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY??! Any councilors willing to chip in with an explanation??

I cant tell if this is St Anns ward or West Green, its on the cusp... but the Cllr with overall planning responsibility is Cllr Stickland.

I dont remember getting a consultation letter about it...

Me neither ... I feel like this whole development has been done very quietly and sneakily... They definitely have not consulted me and i live 3 mins away! I am at a loss for reasons to like Haringey council...

I also wondered what was happening with this site as I went to the last meeting approx 2 years ago and never received any communication after this. I can see the site from where i live, but work only started 2 weeks ago.  Bugler Homes are developing the site on behalf of Notting Hill Housing Group http://www.bugler.co.uk/bugler-developments/haringey/west-green-road/ 41 Flats, 2 houses and commercial frontage.

Sorry I'm a year late in my response but wanted to add and agree that yes, Bedford Road(and Summerhill Road are the best streets around this part of Tottenham. I believe those flats are now built and yes there are a bit of an eye sore. Also the other irritating thing is that some of the properties have been converted in flats but most of them are still single units. People moan about 'gentrification' but it is only money that can keep the properties in good condition and action that will stop actions on the local community. I know there is a website for Summerhill Road, but what about a site for Bedford road?

Just wanted to add that they haven't cut down the largest of the palm trees (yet!).

If anyone has questions, i'm happy to ask as I seem to bump into site management every morning now as I'm dropping the kids of to school.  They've answere any questions I've asked, so far.  41 Flats, 2 houses at the back of the site, limited parking, and 2 x maisonettes on the Langham road side.  It is being developed in conjunction with Notting Hill, and they said it was a mixed housing development

:( I love that palm tree.... Dont laugh, but when I was a kid I named the Palm Tree "trops" and would wave at it everyday... If they remove it, they better be replanting it somewhere close...!! :(

Hi,

This post is great as I was wondering what was going on there! I brought a house on Caversham Road just over a year ago. When we were buying I was told that the current planning permission was about to expire and there were no plans to currently develop the site. In the time I have lived there I have received no letters about the development and yet according the to documents posted below (thanks for that I spent ages trying to find them to no avail) permission was only given this year. Do they not have to consult residents about major building work? Am a little worried about this as the site overlooks my house.
