Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The new  "Lordship Loop" is an ambitious off-road mountain bike track under construction in Lordship Recreation Ground. Due for completion in October 2011, it is part of a much bigger Council-led project to regenerate the park.

It's hard to imagine that the track will be anything but a surefire hit with local kids, but it is hoped that it will also offer wider community benefits including supporting social cohesion and encouraging more local people of all ages into sport.

The Loop's construction is being masterminded by Welsh downhill mountain biking champion, Rowan Sorrell whose Back on Track company have designed and built similar bike tracks elsewhere.

Sorrell has desgned Tottenham's park in an open woodland setting with the express aim of catering for beginners as well as the already skilled.

The following promo video below shows similar tracks by built Back on Track over the past few years (from about 1.30 in to the video).

In advance of the Loop's development, Trax off road cycling club was established in 2009 to bring together and develop the area's off road cycling community. The Trax runs a free youth club that meets every Saturday 10-1pm for 8-16 year olds and holds regular rides in and around Tottenham for the last 18 months.

The Trax project leader (and HoL member), Daniel Mintz is keen to secure local involvement: "Volunteer opportunities exist to help the club maintain the track, coach local kids on it, run and marshall competitions between schools on it as well as help fundraise to maintain it and the club and more.  Please come join us and maybe we can make this not just an amazing local community resource for Tottenham but even a blueprint for other parks around London and beyond".
