Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello there.
I just went to Obergine at the bottom of Hewitt Road, thank GOD its no longer a greasy noodle bar (that sounds snotty but seriously there was something bad about that place...)...
Our party comprised of 2 adults and 3 4-year-olds all a bit starving hungry having just come out of nursery at North Harringay.
OK - so the really duff deal was that for some reason it took half an hour for the 7 men behind the counter to prepare 2 paninis, 1 bowl of plain pasta and 2 sandwiches (cheese / humous). And I am a bit embarrassed to say I got a bit hoighty-toighty and was a bit like, come on guys these kids are really hungry how long does it take 7 men to put two bits of bread together and boil some pasta?
And so 35minutes later the food appeared and was gratefully received and I, like a spoilt puppy with tail between legs apologised for getting cross, and the guy said, don't worry not a problem.
(The food by the was totally fine. Cheese sandwich? Tuna panini? not complicated...)
And then 25minutes later with clean plates and less shouty children (although they were watching Germany V Serbia on the TV and finding it all very funny every time a player fell down - which is possibly the only reason to watch football in fact) I asked for the bill and bless him. The owner said NO NO NO you're not paying. Its our mistake, we must punish ourselves for our mistake - and I was blushing like a traffic light and trying to insist on paying and he was no no no and gave the kids free chocolate muffins and I had to stop him throwing any more food at us...
He said he liked the feedback.
I really felt dreadful. And have promised to drink a lot of their coffee and no doubt we'll be back again for cheese sandwiches and bagels.
The staff are sweet and friendly.
The interior is comfy and they're really accommodating for little people.
And, they are really trying.
So give them a go.
(Oh, and they sell booze too!)

"ingredients"
After a heavy saturday eve drinking Obergine was just what we needed for a sunday FB breakfast. Food was great and my veggie breakfast was so big could'nt finish it all. It was well worth the trip. The italian waitress was very freindly and welcoming. So agree with Clare, give them a go.
Hoighty-toighty would have been:

"And that's not how you bloody well spell Aubergine either!"

?
Obergine with bad signage... (and apparently they didn't want to be mistaken for Aubergine Cafe somewhere down the Angel...(logic?)!)
Sounds great, will have to give that a go.
RIP Yucky Wok...! Welcome to the misspelt vegetable named cafe.
I have now tried Obergine twice. Once for coffee and once for breakfast.

The good news is that it is not only a "pasta bar", it is also a cafe and it does a decent breakfast menu and also serves a limited range of alcohol. It has some armchairs and free newspapers. I didn't ask about Internet.

I am so pleased that we have a proper cafe again north of the Salisbury. I liked it when it was Delices du Jour and when it was the Corner Cafe and was disappointed when it turned into the Greedy Wok - not so much because of the Wok's qualities (I did try it, once) but because we had lost a good and convenient place for breakfast.

For over a year I have been walking down to Lemon which is excellent but is not so handy for me and mine. Obergine have already shown me that they can compete with Lemon for breakfasts and I suspect that they will provide some much needed competition for lunch and dinner. I think that the arrival of Obergine is a good sign, I wish them well and hope I shall see some friends in there.

The place was nearly deserted when I was there, so I didn't experience delays as Clare did. However, it did seem that their team was not fully tuned up but I think they knew it.
Hi there,

We tried Obergine for breakfast a couple of weeks ago (as Lemon was completely full). I really loved it. I thought their veggie breakfast options were inspired.

Looking through the menu, it seemed that they had some really creative pasta options. We wanted to try it for supper a couple of nights later, but sadly they were closed that evening. But we'll definitely be going back.
Obergine seems to have totally changed! Now seems to be a direct replica of Lemon Cafe. Not a bad thing in itself, but a real shame that they no longer have the home-made gnocci on the menu. I'll certainly miss that...
Initial impressions weren't amazing (mis-spelt name and the sign boldly proclaiming 5-star quality when actually they have a 5-star hygiene rating) but was pleasantlysurprised. I popped in to get out of the rain and to fill up my 3 year-old son before meeting friends at the Salisbury. The waitress couldn't have been friendlier and was very accommodating of his prevarications as he changed his mind about 4 times! He was very pleased with his gargantuan pile of baked beans on toast while I settled for a welcome cup of coffee.
