Having seen the 'Closed for Decoration' signs up at Obergine last week, I popped in to the print shop to ask owner Cemil what was up. Cemil wasn't there but one his team confirmed the cafe had been sold. He wasn't sure to whom.

.......I suppose I can own that I've heard it's going to be a Fish & Chips restaurant.
I shall tell Rob Tao then.
Let's have a guessing game in that case, until I get a chance to speak with Cemil.
I really want another betting shop. Please be a betting shop.
Hugh is speculating it will be a chippie. No problems with that, but I would love to see a good curry house on the strip somewhere. Our nearest is Jashan on Turnpike Lane. It is superb, but a schlep to get to from the south end of the ladder as they don't deliver...
Indeed. Or on the Asian front, what I'd love to see on the strip is a good South East Asian restaurant; Thai, Malay or Vietnamese. It's a huge hole and I'm not even sure if there's a good one that will deliver to us. Perhaps we're in the catchment for delivery from one of the Crouch End ones, but I've never had a menu from one of them through my letterbox.
Ok, so I've just chatted to Cemil and here's the story. Two interested buyers - three options:
1. Buyer 1 - a high class fish and chips shop
2. Buyer 2 - a bar
3. Cemil will keep it and make it into a bistro style cafe.
I'd like to see no 2 on the list.
Hopefully more of a Garden Ladder type bar than a shiny wine bar.
Oh, a really good fish and chips place would be lovely - one that does really good fresh, crumbed, not battered calamari (pretty pretty please - have had SUCH a craving lately?)
Not really excited about cafe idea or bar unless it was a sake bar with Japanese bar food - how awesome would that be? (or is that just me?)
If all else fails, I vote for a bar combined with icecream as per Judith's cracking idea - alcoholic milkshakes.. mmmmm...
