Noisy Outdoor Unit ( Air Conditioner) In Neighbours Back Garden Next To Bedroom
Do we have rights to complain about this or not? It’s effecting our sleep and is very noisy, sounds like an airport lounge.
Sort of machines that are used to filter out air in Restaurants, Hotels and big buildings. The new neighbours didn't even bother to consult with us before placing it there so I'm hesitant to discuss it with them.

The top floor in a three or four storey house can get pretty hot. Add a big family all breathing out warm air, and a bit of cooking, and it gets hard to sleep. Will get worse when that 40degree band of heat arrives here from S Europe.
A fan is as noisy as the design of the system. The bigger and slower the fan the quieter it is as a rule, a big slow fan will move the same amount of air as a littleun going full speed (info from putting computers together and attempts to keep them quiet) as it does less work - so making space in a PC for a six inch fan works to cut the noise, together with passive cooling from a big fat copper heat sink. The aircon units i see outside shops and a few houses seem to vary in their noisiness. They also need to be kept clean, as they get clogged up they have to go faster. If the case is well made and not rattling that will help. Your neighbours may have cut corners, or they may the best available kit and a dozen sweaty children.

Looks all fine to me pamish (Physics O-level 1967) :-)
No heat pump here or air-conditioning unit [not a virtue snark]. Just two thermometers telling me room temperatures and selective window opening overnight working off the forecast temperatures on the Met Office website.
That said, in last year's heatwave the house [2 storeys, 3 beds, not vast] took nearly a week to cool down after the heatwave (which included loads of solar radiation onto the house's brickwork) notionally ended.
So I and many others live in a 200+ tonne storage radiator.....

Roughly what size is it? Did you ask why it only runs during the coolest time of the day? Is that the only time they're at home? If not, doesn’t that seem a bit odd? We have aircon units in a flat overseas and use it most during the hottest times of the day.
