Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Local mini-orchards

The Tree Trust and the Council planted 5 fruit and nut trees in Priory Park as part of National Tree Week at the end of November. A regeneration-funded event on 20 January will see fruit and nut trees planted in Northumberland Park. The Council is about to plant pairs of apple trees ('James Grieve' and 'Jonagold' varieties) in 9 primary schools in the east of the borough. Next year, the same offer will be extended to primary schools in the west of the borough. The London Orchard Project wants to create new mini-orchards across London, and in Haringey, will be planting fruit trees on the east part of Duckett's Common (east side of Green Lanes). Behind all of this is the wish to develop people's skills in planting, caring for and harvesting fruit trees, to reconnect with where our food comes from, improve food security, and reduce its carbon footprint.

Information resource

The Tree Trust's website has had a lot of information added to it over the last year, but we recognise there are numerous areas that are not yet covered. We will be working to make it a better resource, for example, for people who are concerned about one or many trees threatened by disease, a planning application, or even the actions of a neighbour.
