Thanks for posting, heartwarming. I am one of the (very) local parents who sent their kids to schools outside the borough, but on a religion basis. However meeting my kids friends, they have a very similar experience with their friends. Eritrean, Nigerian, Colombian, Chinese, most schools in London will have a mix of first second and third generation now. When I started at my school in North London in late 1970s, out of 180 boys in my year, their was just myself and one Jamaican heritage kid who weren't white. I was tickled by the bit in the article where they questioned whether she was really English, hilarious. We used to do that to the one English kid in our year, it was 90% Irish descent with a sprinkling of Southern European, As ever London moves on.
More middle class kids now but warmth, banter, melting pot mix and acceptance sound about right to me.... Have a 16 year old just out of PV and I have a real soft spot for that school ....
I think this was a heartfelt and positive tribute to the school and indeed, to her fellow students. It says a lot about our communities and how schools reflect them and support them.
Made me proud of Tottenham.
