Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

From the Gardens Residents' Association:

A little-known car insurance rule could leave you facing a hefty fine.

A new law is now in force that requires all registered vehicles to have insurance.

It's previously only been illegal to drive uninsured, however, this new law requires all vehicles that are taxed to be insured, even if they are not used.

The Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) will be rigorously enforced as of 20 June and will make it illegal for motorists to keep an uninsured vehicle.

Those of you who own a car that is not insured must either take out insurance or make a Statutory Off-Road Notification (SORN) with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) - even if you don't drive it.

If you are caught with an uninsured vehicle that is not declared SORN, you could receive a penalty of £100. In some cases your vehicle may be clamped or seized with immediate effect.

Motorists who repeatedly fail to insure a vehicle could face a court prosecution with a maximum penalty of £1,000 fine.

The new legislation is designed to target uninsured drivers. The AA estimates that one out of 25 cars on the road is uninsured, an improvement from one in 20 this time last year. What's more, uninsured motorists add £30 to the annual insurance premiums of honest drivers.

Another rule i was unaware of: If you are insured 'to drive any other vehicle including your own' your insurance does not cover a vehicle that is not itself seperately insured.

You are in effect driving without insurance. £200 fine + 6 points + car confiscated.
