And here is a bit more info from the CCG link above . . . Haringey residents can now access more . . . .  of three primary care ‘hubs’ in the borough.

The hubs are located in the following three practices and appointments are available for anyone who is registered with any GP practice in Haringey:

• Bounds Green Group Practice, Gordon Road, London N11 2PF
• Somerset Gardens Family Health Centre, 4 Creighton Road, London N17 8NW
• Queenswood Medical Practice, 151 Park Road, London N8 8JD

To make an appointment, you can call your own GP practice during normal business hours or call 0330 053 9499 during the above hub opening hours.

At the hubs you will see a local Haringey GP or healthcare professional who may or may not be from the practice you are registered with. The GP or other professional will have access to your medical record to ensure that you receive the best possible care and support.

Dr Peter Christian, GP and Chair of Haringey CCG said “We are delighted that Haringey residents will now have even better access to primary care services. Having more evening and weekend appointments will hopefully make a real difference, meaning our patients can access an appointment at a more convenient time for them.”

Really? Seems like a fantastic idea but how does it actually work? I'm registered with a local practice but calling my own surgery (Chestnuts) they know nothing about it. Anyone actually used the service?

Hi Emma,

All practices should be aware of the hubs and how to book patients in, but we will get in touch with Chestnuts to make sure that all their staff know about them. You can also book appointments directly by calling 0330 053 9499 during the hub opening hours (6:30pm – 8:30pm, Monday – Friday and 8:00am – 8:00pm on weekends and public holidays).

Hope you’re able to get an appointment when you need it.

Hi Isha, just a heads up to let you know that my surgery STILL don't know about this (or at least, haven't told all their staff), I had to spend an age patiently explaining it to the receptionist until he agreed to go and ask a colleague for more info, as he was convinced no such service existed and kept telling me I couldn't book appointments for the emergency out-of-hours GP.

Got my appointment in the end but concerned for others who have need of this service but perhaps less tenacity (or time!) to convince unaware staff that something so useful exists.... You'd think they'd be singing the news of it from the rafters as it should ease the burden on our chronically over-subscribed doctors....

Hi Emma, Yes I have used it, although I didn't know anything about it at the time. I couldn't get an appt at my own surgery for 3 weeks (!) but they made me an appt at Somerset Gdns 'hub' for 2 days later and I was the only person there, so I suspect it's not widely known yet.
