Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Narrowing of Wood Green High Road causing more traffic jams in Harringay

Has Wood Green High Road been made narrower to make room for the wider pavements or am I imagining this? As a pedestrian, I like the new pavements. However recently, buses seem to take forever to get back into Harringay from Wood Green. Is the narrowing of Wood Green High Road, slowing down the traffic on Green Lanes? Will this have a further knock on effect, encouraging more rat running through the ladder and Whiteman Road? It could be argued that narrower roads, might to an extent discourage the use of the private car. But without radical changes to provide cheaper and better forms of public transport, along with greener alternative methods, I can only envisage more traffic jams and rat running as a consequence of making the high road narrower.

At the moment it's the temporary traffic lights and the like that are slowing down the traffic - and some bus routes are temporarily stopping short of usual terminus points as a result. Long-term, don't know - don't think there have been any stretches of road that were two driving lanes wide except the complex junctions just south of Wood Green tube station which remain so? Perhaps the southbound right turn into Alexandra Road has lost its dedicated (all of 20 metres) lane?

I agree with all the above. With regards temporary traffic lights - the lights at Turnpike Lane station - where the junction 'improvements' seem to be going on forever -  have absolutely crazy 'phasing', with the times going over from Turnpike lane to Westbury Avenue being 11 seconds green and 50 seconds red (throughout the day)! This is causing horrendous tailbacks along those roads leading up to that junction. Has anyone else noticed this?

Not only is the timing really horrendous (every day this week the traffic on Westbury Avenue has been queued up down to the church), it's really dangerous.  As I was crossing Westbury Avenue on foot from the tube station, the crossing signal was green but the cars were still coming through.  I'll be amazed if there isn't an accident there. 

I can't believe how appallingly the whole thing has been done -- we've had temporary traffic lights on that junction for about 6 months despite there being no other apparent roadworks, and then a few weeks ago they moved the placement of the temporary ones so that you couldn't actually see the lights from either the road or the pavement.
