Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As mentioned a number of times on HOL, horrid people are stealing plants around our neighbourhood and it is also happening in N15.

However the N15 thief was caught on CCTV at my colleagues house (see below), who then ran out and caught the guy (a tall slim, Portugese man, who cycles around in the day on a mountain bike and lives in N15). The police attended and cautioned him. But please look out for this individual as he may be over in N8 stealing our plants soon.

Yes but caught how? If I was to chase someone down the road, how would I catch him? Physically restrain him? Grab his wrist or his jacket? Twist his arm? Throw a lasso? Basically I wouldn't know what to do, so he'd get away.

Yes, this has got me very curious too. From the additional information here I'm guessing that the OP's friend knew or managed to figure out where the thief lived?

Im working with him tomorrow so will investigate and give you an update - maybe he threw some home grown potatoes at him!

OK here is how he caught him:

"I just ran out the house when I saw him go past in the daytime, as I recognised him from the area, and followed him to his house.

I confronted him outside his house and his defence was he was  Portugese and knew nothing about my plants!

He told me to go ahead and call the police which I did.

They arrived quite quickly, and after denying it to them (even after they clearly identified him from the video) he was arrested and let off with a caution.

He has stolen off at least 4 of us in this part of the road over different nights and who knows how many others"

god that made my blood boil! so glad he got caught though!

Interesting - someone stole a lemon cypress from our front garden about six months ago...

That is a seriously good CCTV image. So glad he got caught. But would love to know his thinking behind the hi viz gear, you couldn't miss him really could you.

I honestly think that the wearing of 'looks official' hi vis is to actually hide in plain sight. Lots of people will ignore a person in this kind of get up or assume that they are 'allowed' to be doing what they are doing.
