Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My son almost hit by a car in Finsbury Park.

My son was cycling down the road in Finsbury Park from Manor house to the Endymion Rd entrance. Normally the road is closed to all traffic. Today it's open. We had no idea about this. A security guard is allowing cars up, I guess to the festival. A car driving up the hill well over 20 mph almost hit him. Luckily my son managed to get out of the way. I stopped the driver and had a go at him (the driver couldn't give a damn) and have spoken to the security guard to let them know. I am so angry. Make sure you take care folks.

Bad one that, since that section of road wasn't opened to cars during the previous festivals, I think.

We were leafletted, and it says this:

The event build will commence on Mon 8 Sep and we will be on site until Wed 17 Sep. During this time there will be site traffic associated with the event. 

Were there any 'beware vehicles' signs at the Manor House gate?

And as you'll know, the speed limit is signed at 12 mph at the Endymion Rd gate.

I didn't see any. Or any marshals ensuring the speed limit is adhered to. There should have been marshals and signage all up the road.

I saw notices during one of the previous festivals' set-up period: instructions to drivers on site, including a speed limit reminder and a threat, at least, of speed checks and consequences. So it can be done.

To be honest I was not looking for any signs so there might have been, but there really need to be marshals enforcing a speed limit.

I cycle through Finsbury Park with the kids to and from school. We were almost hit by a lorry delivering to the festival going way above the speed limit - no festival or council staff in sight to ensure that traffic is being responsible even though the Park is full of children at school drop off and collection times. I am in favour of using the Park for a range of activities but surely the council should be much more active - the various festivals staff have often been rude, park in the pavements and add to the problems.

More generally - why do we have any cars in Finsbury Park? I was in clips sold a few weeks ago and what a contrast - no litter, no cars, high quality maintenance - if Hackney can do it can't Haringey?

I agree. It's great having festivals in the park. And it appears the council will make a fair bit of money from hiring it out. Amongst other things, with this money they need to properly enforce and manage the cars that will be using the park when hiring it out.

The film companies that use the park on a regular basis generally don't abide by the 12mph signs that are up on the main entrance and it is pretty dangerous along the park roads when they are about.
