Morrisons et al
We usually shop in Morrisons. In the last few weeks it seems our shopping bill has increased significantly. Can't quite put my finger on specific items but it's a basic weekly shop. Anybody notice this?

Not notice any real increases in basic food
Notice Fruit is slightly higher
Believe some have returned to price charged before Covid
Export prices will rise as do all price in time.
Joys of increased running costs / rates etc

Commodity prices have been on a tear.
Corn is up 140% on the year, soybean oil is up 150%, lumber up 400%, copper at all time highs, pork near 20yr highs etc.
Inflation is here and it's going to hit hard.

I don't usually shop in Morrison's but have noticed the same in both Tesco's and Sainsbury's. I am sure that this is one of the results of Brexit. along with the reduced freshness of fruit and vegetables.

Items coming in from the EU are definitely more expensive even if only a bit. And that is quite a bit of the food we eat on this island. Some items will just disappear altogether once stocks are gone.
A shop I was in today told me they are being charged handling fees to pay for the extra bureaucracy involved in importing goods even if there is no duty on the goods per se.
So if this pushes prices up too much they'll just destock the item because customers will not buy them at the higher prices.
Waitrose stopped stocking a whole host of EU originating items some time ago and their product range has gotten smaller. But also they have substituted some of these items with great UK products and one wonders why this wasn't done before and the goods exported to the EU? Now, of course, it won't be that easy to export them as they'll also face handling charges as well as sanitary controls, etc and so be less competitive......
