Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
More Traffic Headed for Wightman - 2 days to Act
Last October I raised the issue that possible street closures in surrounding areas would displace traffic our way.
One of the areas was Crouch End.
A consultation for those living/working in the area is in progress and one of the options being consulted on is the closure to through traffic (except for buses, emergency vehicles and cyclists) of one or more major roads, such as The Broadway.
A traffic survey for the Crouch End project suggests such a change might mean 2000 more vehicles a day in both directions for Wightman.
Harringay residents can make their views known via the questionnaire.

Number One spot? I don't know for sure, but in 2013 there was a vote-rigging scandal in the council candidates selection meeting for St Ann's Labour Party. The main HoL comment thread on that topic had 48 pages. There were other pages started as well.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once said: "The most important political office is that of private citizen."
During the St Ann's scandal the bravest citizen was John McMullan.

I agree with Frederick...filtering across the Ladders. Would reduce traffic along Wightman, and make all of the Ladder Roads much more pleasant. Parking along Green Lanes has to go too if we genuinely care about about transport/protected bike lanes.

I don't think that will go down that well on the ladder rungs. Filters along Wightman is the favoured option by the residents IMHO. To begin with I would've thought Veolia will find it very awkward.

I am very proud that the ladder has over the years stuck together and resisted (apart from Hewitt Rd) the council's offers to "sort your traffic problem". Wightman is the problem and encourages a stream of traffic from the mess above us on the A406 all the way down Tollington into Islington every morning and back again in the evenings, not to mention people who just want to head east/west but have very restricted options because of the small number of crossings over the Great North Eastern Line.

Is that the solution referred to in this piece from nearly 3 years ago. The author of the item asks " . . . why the consultation for this is confined only to people living on the Ladder - surely residents across a much wider area should be involved? " which Hugh has achieved in the current versy viser situation.

You will know better than most the sensitivity we might have over in Harringay when it comes to road filtering. Our own opportunity to have permanent filtering installed after the Wightman Rd bridge works was effectively nixed by people who just wanted to drive through here. The people who joined HoL at that time from Crouch End to tell us all we were being selfish nimbys are now presumably standing behind you as you unashamedly sweet talk us into supporting your own filtering.

Are you were sure it was Crouch End nimbys not Stroud Green ones - not sure Wightman Road is really a sensible route from Crouch End Broadway to anywhere.
