Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Memories of last survivor of Britain's Olympic team who played at Harringay

1948 Olympics Basketball Competition at the Harringay Arena

With just under 100 days till the 2012 Olympics we can expecta whole heap of Olympic minutiae to be recycle by the press. A certain amount of it will be looking back the the 1948 London Olympics - and if I'm lucky that might turn up some gems about the Olympics competitions played in Harringay.

The Arena staged both the basketball and wrestling competitions. You can see from the picture above how popular the basketball games were with the post-wear British public.

I held high hopes of an article published today in The Independent today with the title "Basketball: London 1948 - horse dung, low scores and no dunking", subtitled  "Last survivor of Britain's last Olympic basketball team recalls fondly an intimate, friendly Games". Actually it has very little on Harringay, but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled.
