I’m not sure why the police and council haven’t advertised this (or if they have, apologies, I haven’t seen it!) but there’s a meeting at North Harringay primary school at 5.30 pm this Friday 6 March) which Catherine West has organised (David Lammy will be there, too, plus council officers and borough commander for police. Catherine has posted on FB. It’s to discuss, crime, policing and community safety in response to residents’ concerns following recent shootings etc. Please come along if you can so we can make our voices heard!

For a taste of what it might be like, the last time MPs held a public meeting in Harringay was 11 years ago and, it was mostly about traffic. The shootings are nothing to do with austerity of course.
There was a residents'/police meeting two and a half years ago attended by Lammy. Since then, drug dealing, shootings and stabbings seem to have got worse, not better.
Not sure about the wisdom of holding a public meeting in a school hall during the current health crisis...
And who's bright idea was it to hold a public meeting at a time when most people are either at work or commuting?
I thought that too but in fact the hall was full to bursting.
Impressive turnout considering the time and lack of advertising! I felt it was a largely positive meeting, let’s see...
Could someone communicate broadly what was said and any resolutions of the meeting, please, for those who didn't/couldn't attend? Or is there an official report to be found? Thanks in advance.
Hi Rory, I’m afraid I had to leave during the questions towards the end but the headlines were that the police acknowledged needing to do more regarding the drug dealing etc in the area and they are getting 70 “extra” police in the next few months (currently being trained), I think this brings it roughly to pre-austerity cut levels or at least that’s what they said. They will all be frontline officers. Muggings have decreased considerably. They are “on it” re the shooting incidents apparently. One main point the police wanted to press home was that despite perception, it absolutely is worth calling 101 or Crimestoppers if you see drug dealing etc as the more people that do, they can build a case ie to get a warrant for a crack house. I hope there was some kind of next steps and follow up meeting agreed at the end. I would also encourage everyone to keep telling their MPs if the situation doesn’t improve.
