Mayor of London Sports Participation Fund is now open for second round of applications

What is PlaySport London: Sports Participation Fund?

The PlaySport London: Sports Participation Fund was launched on 23 August 2010, as a key part of the Mayor's commitment to deliver a sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The first bidding round closed on 1 October 2010. On 6 December, the Mayor announced that £2.3m had been awarded to 18 projects that will benefit up to 200,000 Londoners.

Round 2 of the Sports Participation Fund is now open. The deadline for applications is May 6 2011.

The fund is specifically aimed at helping community projects that significantly increase participation in sport and/or use sport to tackle social issues such as crime and unemployment. For this second round, we have also joined forces with Team London to offer grants for projects that use volunteers to deliver sporting activities to young adults at risk.

The Fund is looking for applications which meet the following criteria:

1. Increasing participation in sport (grants from £50,000-£200,000) Projects which engage people who are currently 'inactive' and get them involved in sport to promote better health and healthy living.

2. Community Development (grants from £50,000-£200,000) Projects that take a holistic approach to community development through sport; that encourage people to work in partnership for the benefits of their local communities; and that use sport to help bring long term positive change.

3. Team London: A sporting chance for 'At Risk' young adults (grants from £100,000-£250,000) As part of the Team London programme, we want to fund up to two projects that use volunteers in an imaginative and innovative way to deliver sporting activities to young people at risk
