Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The following from Joanne McCartney, Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, Greater London Authority :

Transport for London are beginning their 2010/11 bus service review programme, and I want to alert your readers to this important opportunity to tell Boris Johnson, what we want to get out of our bus services and about where we think the service is not up to scratch.

This consultation centres primarily on those bus routes, which are due to have their operator’s contract renewed over the next year or so. Bus companies will be able to bid for these contracts as they come up for renewal so this is an ideal time to suggest any changes or improvements which you think could improve services. In Enfield Borough, routes 692, 699, N29, 141 & 329 are up for renewal. In Haringey Borough, routes 210, 271, N271, 29, N29, 141, 329, 41, N41, 121, 153, 299, W4 & W5 are up for renewal.

If you think there aren’t enough buses, or find the existing buses unreliable, on any of these routes, find any unreliable or have suggestions for how they could be extended or altered to provide better transport links for your local community – for example to shops, leisure centres, or transport interchanges, now is your chance to let the Mayor know!

Goodness me, are all the bus users on here a happy lot then. No response to direct democracy in action for Ms McCartney thus far. Maybe most HoL'ers are secretly car drivers or loud & proud cyclists!
perhaps we're just emailing direct, as suggested, and not posting it on here? Having neither car nor bike, I rely on the buses and will be considering my response to this request and sending it to Ms McCartney.

Plus the discussion was posted at 4 in the afternoon so I guess it hasn't had time to get many readers. Well done for boosting to latest activity :)
You gotta give people just a leedle more time that an hour or so Matt an I imagine, like Liz says, that, in the main, response will go direct.

Unfortunately, your wishes will fall on deaf ears..

The 38's tender is up for renewal later this year and it has already been decided to convert it back to D/D operation.. But at what cost to the environment and council taxpayers pockets..?

The Mon-Fri vehicle allocation has to rise from 52 to 72 vehicles to achieve the same available capacity, needing probably an extra 25 -28 drivers on Mon-Fris.. for not one extra penny of revenue..

Well that's another Job well done Boris, ES and the other idiots out there! You can pat yourselves on the back for that..
Maybe the newly out-of-work middle class could retrain as drivers and come off the dole, thereby saving money ?

I thought the concensus earlier was against bendy buses ? Democracy, democracy, democracy :-)

To return to suggestions for the bus service, could they cut down on the loud and intrusive tannoy announcements? Yes, it's useful to know where the next stop is, but do we really need to be told we're on a "141 for London Bridge" after leaving EVERY stop ?
I would like to see better bus routes to get in and around the borough. The buses that take us out of the borough ie 29 and 341 141 are brilliant and i love the bendy bus (despite killing a few cyclists) However, to get say from Harringay to Crouch End or Muswell Hill by bus is a real pain because there is no direct bus route. I realise that Crouch Enders perhaps have little desire to come to our part of the borough and if they did would probably drive down in their mercedes but it seems to me that those of us in Harringay who do not drive are put at a disadvantage when it comes to enjoying the attractions of Haringey such as Ally Pally because we have to pay for four bus journeys to get there and back again.

We get the W5 to Crouch End quite often (well back anyway as there is a big hill ;-)), It goes direct from Sainsbury's although it stops at Harringay station on request so cuts out the time. Not sure where you are on the ladder as to if that is much help.
Totally agree Ruth - if you're at the top or bottom of the ladder you're okay (41 at the top, W5 at the bottom), but for people around the middle it is a bit more of a treck. I'd love to get to Ally Pally by bus!

That's a very good question. Even with an Oystercard, if it's a Pay-as-you-go card, you pay two fares
