Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This Wednesday evening sees the launch of The Bigger Picture digitisation of film project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. 

It shows a series of short films from our rich film heritage that were shot mainly in the locality, some from almost 100 years ago. It includes recently-digitised home-movie film given this summer to Bruce Castle Museum & Haringey Archives from a local resident in Stanhope Gardens in Harringay. Come along and see the wonderful results for yourself.

Doors open at 7pm – with tea and coffee courtesy of Film London.

Topical Budget: Wimbledon Election (1916)

00:48, 35mm, B&W, Silent  (British Film Institute) A wonderful newsreel showing scenes at the 1916 by-election in Wimbledon, featuring charismatic challenger Kennedy Jones. Kennedy Jones was a journalist who entered politics at the 1916 Wimbledon election. He lost by 1800 votes but entered Parliament later that year after winning an election in Hornsey.
