Local homelessness charity's blue plaque campaign highlights individual stories

After renting a place in Haringey for almost five years, Jakob was evicted by his landlord. Shortly after, he suffered a stroke. Homeless, while trying to deal with limited mobility and memory loss, Jakob slept rough on a park bench during a particularly cold spell.

Tottenham Lane based charity All People All Places (APAP) support homeless people and campaign on issues of homelessness in Haringey and Enfield.

Last year the charity ran an eye-catching blue plaque campaign, telling the real and positive stories of just some of the people they've helped. Their stories were aimed to inspire even more support for the millions across the UK facing homelessness. This year, amidst an continued exponential rise in homelessness and rough sleeping across Enfield and Haringey, the charity will be launching a new campaign.

This crisis in homelessness, say the charity, is no longer limited to single person households being priced out of the market. Compounded by increasing rents and a shrinking supply of affordable rental properties, it is often whole families who are affected now. This year, say APAP, was a turning point. For the first time, a long-standing housing crisis is running alongside an evictions crisis.

All People All Places have been providing shelter, supporting people and preventing homelessness in Enfield and Haringey since 2010. The Charity say, "We already know this winter is likely to be the toughest yet in so many ways. This year’s campaign will launch and run throughout December - please keep an eye out and support us if you can. As a small, locally rooted charity we rely on the generous support of our community to continue to support those most in need in the two boroughs".
