Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Local Harringay ward Councillor James Ryan has resigned. There will be a selection meeting by the Labour Party followed by a far more perfunctory by-election.

Zena Brabazon!!!! Please stand in our ward!

Local Labour Party members, please select Zena!

More details here and here. Expect Council Leader Claire Kober to have an alternative candidate in mind.

Mmm, yes I was speaking with the press office as you were writing this, trying to find out a little more.

There is a backstory to his departure that goes beyond resignation. Those of us at the Harringay Traffic Study Group meeting the other week saw tensions within the local Labour party over Ryan's in-office performance laid somewhat bare.

It's certainly an interesting time to be having this election. Whatever the outcome it will be nice to have three ward councillors again.

You mean two.

No I mean three. Gina Adamou serves her constituency and has her role.

Who am I to deny John the chance of a ton of beer.

Billy this is John's free beer ticket for the next month. Are you really going to stand in the way of that?

Didn't know about Harringay Traffic Study Group meeting Hugh - anywhere I can find minutes?  Get an invite?

Nor did I.

I will post some notes later. I meant to do it later but have not had a moment to scratch myself this week!

Councillor Kober's preferred candidate is Gareth Morgan.

I hope either of the previous Lib Democrats councillors stand again.
With both 'major' national parties in disarray I would hope that voters would seize the opportunity to move from a national voting mindset and elect an individual who actually cares and acts for the ward.

Karen Alexander springs to mind.

Labour voters should look at how they were deceived with the likes of James Ryan on the previous ballot.

FWIW I have never voted Lib Dem, but have been a Labour Party member.

No disrespect to Karen, but David Schmidt was also a good councillor for Harringay.

Yes, I agree. I did suggest "either".
We have two who will do Claire Kober's bidding already. It would be nice to have one who actually cared about the ward.
