This group take the classic 60s organ quartet, a line-up steeped in tradition, into new territory where the compositions from leader Jon Shenoy (Ivo Neame Large Ensemble) mix contrapuntal bass lines and rhythmic hooks with thoughtful lyricism. Mixing stark ethereal voices with gritty Hammond boogaloo, organist Will Bartlett (veteran NYJO pianist) draws on a wide palette of sounds that build the foundation for an infectious mix of groove-based original compositions, enchanting ballads and unique arrangements of avant-pop songs.
Play Trio
PLAY trio are a new project that sets out to explore modern concepts of melodic group improvisation and metric modulation using the framework of Jazz standards. The group formed in late 2011 with the intention of creating free flowing delicate improvisations based on these traditional forms. PLAY are Fredrick Arlen - Drums, Andrew Button - Guitar, Julie Walkington - Bass.
