The Lib Dems are always on about Haringey Council politically being on a 'knife edge'. At Full Council on Monday night (22/03), three Labour members were missing. If all Lib Dems members had actually bothered to turn up, Labour would have lost their majority for the first time in over 40 years. Harringay's Cllr. Baker and Stroud Green's Laura Edge were both missing; Labour had to rely on the Mayor's casting vote. No apologies were given for either LD councillor.
I cannot remember a single occasion when there has been a 'full compliment' from the Lib Dem group, yet their Lib Dem Chief Whip, Cllr. Whyte, receives an SRA of £15,000 to ensure democracy is served in Haringey. Feel cheated?
Clearly a LD vote is a vote for Labour. Labour were delighted by the Lib Dems' 'no' show.
Discuss.
