Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Labour makes some great points about the threatened return of a major event in a public park. These are their key ones:

  • Event decision steamrollered
  • Strong opposition by local residents
  • Disappointing organisation
  • Lack of confidence for further events
  • Concerns about safety
  • Disruption in the summer
  • Concerns about lengthy set-up and take-down times
  • Poor public consultation
  • Excessive noise from loudspeakers

“We have had a steady stream of emails from local residents opposing this event very strongly and claiming that they have not had any response from the Leader of the Council. The council has also not said how it would spend the revenue from the event, so residents cannot put up with this amount of disruption to their local park if they cannot see any benefit.”

Never understood the Battersea Park location for Formula E. Better off on a Sunday using City & Royal Park streets; more decent track & more public to watch the rise of electric.

I think I did John :-)

Bottom of P2.

Well it seems that everyone has fallen for Clive's trap...... dear me.

DESPITE much opposition, tonight Wandsworth Council (Conservative) voted to continue—for at least two years—with their major event in Battersea park:

Formula E will return to Battersea Park

Formula E to continue at Battersea Park

The thing is, most people don't mind the events. They mind the extensive setup and tear down times.

ON 9 December 2015 Wandsworth Council held a full debate about the principle of holding a major event in their park:

By contrast, Haringey's position is one of mitigation.

"Mitigate" and "mitigation" were terms used over and again in the recent Scrutiny Review of Events in our park. It was claimed that cash receipts did not trump other considerations, but of course that is precisely what has happened.

Labour Wandsworth listen to residents; Labour Haringey listen to PR: an increased public relations effort is major recommendation.

The gap between the Evidence heard by the Committee and its Recommendations, was a chasm.

I SEE that the Battersea Park Action group are now more than half way to their goal to raise funds to challenge the decision of Wandsworth Council to hold (electric) car racing in Battersea Park.
