Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Rachel Taylor - living in Tottenham, is a creative and passionate knitter. She wants to hold relaxed, informal drop-in knitting sessions at weekends during the Summer on the Green event.

Are you or any of your contacts interested in joining in? Traditional and guerrilla knitters welcomed! Also learners, though there will be no formal tuition - it is a chill-out, rather than teaching, session.

Rachel is amazing - last seen knitting strips of torn-up fabric into a rug on needles the size of small trees! Her events will be lots of fun for anyone into making things!

Would you like to come along? Or do you have a box of leftover wool and needles, untouched for years, which you could donate to Rachel, who does lots of community knitting events locally?

We would be very grateful if you could circulate this widely to your contacts and organisations, especially knitters and those interested in crafts.

For those who don't already know, Summer on the Green is a temporary festival for one month from this Saturday 23 June, on Tottenham Green East, across the High Road from the Town Hall. It is being run in conjunction  with Haringey Council and the London Festival of Architecture and the Royal Institute of British Architects. Our themes are community and sustainability. For more info, please look at our website - www.summeronthegreen.co.uk  There is an events timetable there, but it is rapidly evolving

Hello,

what time will you be meeting on the green? Might be able to come along and also bring some unwanted wool one weekend.

Hi, I am one of the organisers of Summer on the Green. We are just firming up dates with Rachel, but it will be weekends - probably Sat 21st July plus one Sunday during the festival month [23 June - 22 July] - the 8th or 22nd. There is a calendar [under 'Events'] on our website - http://www.summeronthegreen.co.uk - where you can see all the activities scheduled, but please bear with us - the calendar is fast evolving and we have lots more events to add once we have confirmed dates. There will be a whole spectrum of things to do for all ages!

You can email Paola or myself on info@summeronthegreen.co.uk if you have any queries - or if you'd like to take a stall or organise an activity, whether you are a local business, community organisation or an individual with ideas.

See you at Summer on the Green!

Summer on the Green - big compost giveaway!

Dear all - we have over-ordered on the compost, rather, and now have a big heap of it to give away to community gardeners, allotment holders and individuals just wanting a couple of bags for their gardens. Do come along tomorrow afternoon [Friday 22 June], with shovels, sacks and barrows or trolleys, and take away as much as you want! After 22 June, we might have some left - get in touch on info@summeronthegreen.com

The site is the little park on the east of the High Road, opposite the Town Hall. Vehicular access is via Tottenham Green East, though you might have to park briefly nearby as it is a narrow road and buses use it as a turnaround.

The compost is from the North London Waste Authority, and is made from green waste. It is certified according to recognised standards as good stuff, and nutritious for gardens [though not brilliant for ericaceous plants like heather and rhododendrons etc]. Please note, NLWA cannot guarantee that it will be free from bits of glass etc, so anyone coming to collect or working with the compost should wear gloves. [I have personally shovelled cubic metres of it today, and this is not a huge problem, though I did find occasional sharp bits.]

We cannot deliver, unfortunately, or take stuff to cars [there are only a very few of us], so please come prepared.

Update - Knit in dates now confirmed!

Rachel will be at Tottenham Green East this Sunday, 8 July, and again on Saturday 21 July.

Both 1pm to 4pm [after which, there are free tango lessons on Sundays!]

hope to see you then

Remember to come along to the knit-in on Tottenham Green East on Saturday 21st July, 1pm to 4pm. Rachel will be joined by Judith, who will be showing us how to crochet, especially with recycled materials. Bring along needles and spare wool or materials, if you can.

We will have stalls, aromatherapy, massage, face painting and more!

On Saturday, we have our final Toddle in Tottenham - photography walkabouts for small children at 2.30pm. There will be music early evening.

On Sunday, come along for free Tai Chi at 11am, watch the judging of the Toddle in Tottenham photography competition at 2.30pm, listen to Gladesmoor School singing their Tottenham hit song, 'Everybody Dreams' at 2.30pm - 3pm, then join in with free tango lessons at 4pm. Quality stuff - catch some of the moves here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdjtO3HfRvE&feature=youtu.be

Then at 5.30, we finish up with an auction of lots of cool stuff - gazebos, furniture, tyre gardens, plants and much more.....

See you at Summer on the Green
