Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Fresh olives are available on Green Lanes again - last year we tried curing some, with moderate success. Has anyone any recipes they've tried themselves? the ones I've found online are fine but not sure how tried-and-tested they are.

I've often seen these and wondered what the Turkish, greek, Kurdish communities use them for? That and the carob in pods...I'd love to know more too.

I cured mine with lye (a household detergent!) the results were good just not like olives you buy in shops...much spongier.

Lye! Isn't that in soap? I always assumed they were just brined...What's the method?

For a starter, I'll ask Adina at Nazar Blue for some ideas.

I'd love to know more about what to do with the local produce. Next time I'm on the high street i'll take some photos.

Just read this "how to do" page for curing olives.

Looks a real faff. Think I'll stick to buying them by weight at Yasser Halim!

So does anyone know what these are?
