Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Is it about time we invited a New Council leader to run the council and get rid of the old useless department so called leaders. Like a few years age we had a very stupid leader and his friends/relatives to change Black Boy Lane to a name few wanted (even the the family), and allgedly most of the residents of Black Boy Lane, including, allegedly, almost all the black residents. Why not invite Donald Trump over to run the council and get rid of the all the old useless department leaders (keeping just the good ones). I know Trump is not honest, but as most of our leaders are not, and have spent millions on useless whims that do not help the residents. Trump will be better here than in jail or Running the USA and trying to ruin the world. At least it will be fun to have blatant fool running the council the our normal fools we choose.

Wikipedia. has become a bit of a joke when it comes to famous figures. The page about Bernie on Wikipedia does not even mention he was ever leader of Haringey. Yes he did achieve a lot and did some great things. But he was criticized at the time for getting Haringey to loan/give his sister money to buy a property in Jamaca,  for a charity?, but was reported at the time it was in her name, I also said he was a nice person, and went out of his way to meet orninary people and ask about what hapining, i meet him a number of times, when myself and friends were having a beer at the Tottenham Labour club . Also other things at the time, but of which i am unable to remember. It is sad that most celebraties and many countries Wikipedia page have too much on them of which is untrue, as anyone can make changes. It is known that both China & Russia moniter and change thier own page.

From my personal knowledge I can confirm the final paragraph.
"Even those who characterised him as rash and hasty acknowledged that he was likeable, charming, generous to friends and enemies, and relentlessly honest. Those closest to him understood that he had never accepted the dogmatic positions of faction and party. He had a passionate devotion to an ideal of justice, and he believed that politics was about these notions."

Isn't what you suggest called 'election'?

Haringey officially the most complained about council in England - second year running. (At least the council get a first in something.)

Costs for the refurbishment of the Civic Centre have spiralled out of control. (It's on a par with HS2!) Original budget £7m. Then doubled to £14m. Then £23m at which point the Council decided it wanted shiny new offices so that took the cost up to £54m- and now costs have spiralled to an estimated £73 million - but that was a couple of months ago so it is probably higher than that now.

Estimated total debt accrued by the Council £1.7 billion!

Haringey Council always pleads poverty and blames the government and yet always seems to find money to fund its vanity projects.

If you had inherited a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost in need of major repairs that was financially prohibitive for you to bring it back into full use would you put it in Gumtree for a fiver? Because that's effectively what Haringay's leaders did with Hornsey Town Hall: RIBA bronze medal winner and Grade ll listed gem of the borough. Seven years on I am still reeling from Haringey's decision to sell off the town hall to a Hong Kong property developrer for a fiver. I have been a passionate supporter of returing the town hall to full use for ALL the people of the borough from the early 80s when I did an OU dissertation on its architectural significance as a civic building. I wrote to the architect Reginal Uren who was then alive and living in New Zealand are received a reply. Around 2005, I went to a surgery of the then council leader Charles Adje, to plead with him to do something about the lack of any council's action to do something about the fate of the town hall. In his response he effectively told me that Haringey Council could not spend money on the town hall in the more privileged half of the borough when there were deprived areas like the Northumberland ward in the east. While I totally understood the 'borough-of-two-halves' disparity (I lived, went to school and worked in the east of the borough), I would think that the majority of Haringey's council tax was being collected from the west of the borough and the town hall was a rightly deserving case. I came away from that surgery with Mr Adje determined to start a campaign for partition to create West Haringey and East Haringey along the natural boundary line of Green Lanes with each being able to spend their collected council tax on their half of the borough. (N.B. I have attached a map of the partitioned Haringey but please do not read anything into my choice colours)

Sadly your plan was not successful and Hornsey Town Hall was sold off to the Far East Consortium domiciled in the Cayman Islands. (Good to see the Council adhering to its socialist principles.)

As the majority of business rates are collected from the east of the borough you may find that the west suffers as a result of your proposal.

how about we all get together and decide who gets to run the council next?

Just need a catchy name for it... Election?

Sadly we need to wait a further 3 years for this.

Sadly an Election will not work as too many of the general public just vote Labour (or Conservative etc.) just because they always do..

They do not bother to check if the person is honest or capable of doing the job.

Every political party puts up candidates who are just good talkers, but who have no idea how to do the job, or get rid of very poor council staff and employ people who are any good. Just look at the government for the last 30+ years.

Generally too many Haringey leaders seem to have no idea how to handle Council Cash and assets as it is not theirs or to do contracts that protect what the council want.

As regards Haringey council’s decision to sell off the town hall to a Hong Kong property developer for a £5. It would not surprise me if they did not offer it properly in the press for the best offer, or even have an agreement of use. Like what if they convert it into 100 luxury flats that are all sold in China/Hong Kong to investors who will not want anyone to live there, just keep them clean and empty as an investment, and maybe to use once a year when they visit the UK?

Did they even bother to check out what the new owners have done in the past?

Ok, an armed coup then followed by a military junta. You're right, democracy is overrated.
