Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

While Anthony Pepe's agent may be whistling in the dark or pissing against the prevailing wind on Twitter, HANE's garish yellow & black has infested the Ladder roads up our way. Yes, I know, they're not selling houses directly - they're supposedly selling the SHS Summer Fair. A very good cause, as most of us agreed in a Paul Simon discussion two or three years ago. But at least the Paul Simon signs were three-quarters 'devoted' to the School Fair, one-quarter to Paul Simon. The HANE placards seem to be larger, with 70-75% of their area promoting HANE in huge black-on-yellow upper-case, while SHS's Summer Fair is squeezed into the top quarter in lettering so miniscule you can't read it from beyond five metres. With seven of these signs festooning the upper third of Duckett Road (that awful yellow makes Ryanair livery a paragon of aesthetic beauty), I trust HANE have already donated a minimum of £10,000 to the Cause.

OAE, and any other HOL members, we would be delighted to receive any donations contributing to the Summer Fair fundraising effort - please make cheques out to PSA South Harringay Infants School and drop in or post to the School - South Harringay Infants & Nursery School, Pemberton Road, London N4 1BA - or you can put it through my door - PM me for full address. I am co-ordinating the Summer Fair this year and missed this thread because I was away. Just for the record, we had nobody to volunteer to run an art competition for estate agent boards - I agree that the HANE boards are not attractive, but these things do take a lot of time to organise and we have a very small group of people putting an awful lot of time into trying to make the summer fair happen. Whilst I hope someone else will be co-ordinating next year I'll try to remember to post on here next January/February for ideas to raise £1200 instead of estate agent boards - of course we will also need people willing to pursue those ideas......
Thanks for posting Tessa. I'm sure the (largely) silent majority will join me in thanking you for the work you're doing organising the fair.
Thanks, Tessa, for the reminder. Will do that today.  I hope everyone who contributed to this discussion (or indeed to the latest lively joust on the Bridge Banner) will contribute usefully to both SHIS and NHS Summer Fairs.

Correction & Clarification:

Of the seven Hane boards I described as festooning the upper third of Duckett Road, five relate to the SHIS Summer Fair (as Karin has mentioned). The other two, in the same livery and format, are HANE LET signs - quite probably long-term semi-permanent and therefore illegal (as was the case with most of Paul Simon Old Management's 'Let & "Managed"' signs). Anything that adds to this toxic overall effect used get scores if not hundreds of HOL members exercised in keyboard fulmination. If a tasteful Paul Simon banner on the Salisbury could be seen as an ugly carbuncle on the face of a well-loved friend, can we ignore (not to mention support) the Hane forest on Duckett or even on Wightman?

Thanks to everyone for the support both on and off line, much appreciated
Hope everyone enjoys the summer fair!

Hanewatch update:

Single outbreaks reported from Atterbury and Alroy Roads. Yellow fever seems to have gone viral. Expect whole Ladder quarantine soonest. Please do not shoot the messenger.

first the ladder , next the world (insert evil laughter here)...
