Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know what the incident was yesterday afternoon on Langham Place near the tube station? I walked past at about 3.45 and it was cordoned off with police tape/forensics in attendance etc. Worryingly, in exactly the same place as February's shooting, outside the barber's shop....

Maybe this?

I saw that too. There seemed to be a car with a dent in it within the taped area outside the barber shop so perhaps it was a traffic incident rather than shooting?

Mmm, this is the sort of the the local papers love. So you'd have thought they'd have picked it up by now.

That whole building - Langham Place - with the barbers/thai 'sauna' (brothel) etc needs a stick of TNT taken to it . . . a shame on the council too - this small 100 yards outside the tube/bus station - Langham Place and Langham Close is a magnet for dodgyness and NOTHING is being done to force the landlords to keep the buildings in good shape or stop them from renting to unsuitable business . . . The West Green Residents Assoc puts in regular complaints but not much seems to have changed . . .

There are drug dealers in Langham Close and the cluster of businesses in Langham Place attract Turkish gangsters . . .  There is often a heavy police presence around there but the minute the police go, it's dodgy business as usual. I often come back from work late and have to run the gauntlet of groups of dodgy men doing their dodgy stuff. It's a shame especially after all the hard work that DIY streets put in to improve the local area.

It's Langham Parade, not Langham Place, isn't it? I thought Langham Place was the other end of Graham Road.

I think that whole parade of shops is ripe for redevelopment. Given the amount of effort that people put into campaigns against new building (Wards Corner etc), I think they might actually be lining up to support one here. It couldn't be much worse...

sorry yes, it's Langham Parade . . . and yes it desperately needs redeveloping . . . Any word from the local councilors on HOL on this issue . . . ??

Very worrying... I know every area has its issues.... but this sounds awful...

We were around the area today and just admiring our potential new house and looking at the new billboard being re-designed... were just in the process of buying a house on Langham Road...

is it normally very unsafe around the cut through from the station, pass the driving school/cafe. I must admit the amount of lads hanging around do worry me. I work from home but pop out now and again to see clients.... (thinking of investing in a pair of bull dogs :-(

Don't let it put you off. I live directly behind Langham Rd and walk down this bit at least twice a day. The only serious incidents I've heard of are the two described in this thread, and the first was a gangland execution, so realistically could have happened anywhere. (I know that's not much comfort...)

You don't need bulldogs, nice as they are. And the police, who seem to have particularly good community relationships round here, have introduced a dispersal order which is aimed at removing the loitering blokes. That said, it took me a while to realise that the ones on the other side of the road were just cab drivers waiting for a fare.

I moved here about five years ago, thinking it was very dodgy indeed, and, as you say, everywhere has its issues. The area around the bus station is still horrible. However, in the last couple of years or so the wider residential area has felt very different and I think it's getting better and better as time passes. I'm sure you've seen the DIY Streets stuff - I think that reflects the change quite well.

However, I'm still quite scared of meeting my death via one of those rapidly reversing cars outside the House of Beauty...
