Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not only is this offensive and condescending to women, but offensive and discriminatory against men. I spoke to someone who said he was in charge at the shop and was basically laughed at.

Please can every man who reads this ring them and apply for the job? There's also solicitors a few doors up who will help you sue them.

In all seriousness though, this and the leering and catcalling on the Harringay part of Green Lanes must make it the most sexist street in Britain. It's 2015, about time this was stamped out for good.

That's a really sincere letter. It acknowledges the problem, deals with it & then apologizes. Very considerate, thank you Murat.

Very pleased to see Murat's letter and action taken.

But there are others and there still needs to be a culture shift including better working conditions for women in those cramped shop windows plus other things raised here. I think there should be a focus on one thing at a time. Murat is aware such signs are against the law, others might not know or care about this. Plus the question of the language used.

I think a general letter of reminder to all traders would be welcome that they must show compliance with the laws of equality and diversity.

Agree.
I'm naturally curious as to whether a female or male sandwich maker is employed ;-)

Thank you Murat.

If all else fails, blame the bloody builders. I want to see Vicky the Bricky taking over that firm and laying down the law on them, thick with her trowel.

If that's how you feel, you could always emigrate to somewhere run by robber barons.
Which would be a dictionary definition of irony.
Sorry. Not clear if you were responding to me or to Mostly Harmless?

In Walthamstow this morning and saw, pretty much, the same thing about mid-market....café asking for female staff! I didn't take any pics. Sorry!

I avoid Green Lanes as much as possible...too many leery men.

You are really defending those tweets and the misogynistic language used?...Wow - what a time to be alive.

OK I am not saying that Lauren should not be supported but it's like any dissenting/alternative views are automatically shunned and dismissed. That means this is not a discourse but rather a "circle-jerk" where we just fan each others ego's and sense of self righteousness. there are far worse things happening on GL that I bet you have no real inclination to change so pick the low hanging fruit (domestic violence for instance) - to be for womens rights does not mean we have to agree with everything 3/4 people from the neighborhood says nor does it mean we have to tackle it in the way that you state.

Tris pointed out the hypocrisy that people overlook in their everyday lives and I think improving people as human beings far out weighs any single crusade, and starts with oneself (but that is just my opinion).

Being a feminist does not give you the right to be rude and dismissive whenever you feel like it. I'm a humanist...

There is an islamic saying - that those who overlook a thousand faults in themselves everyday are the first to see it in others. But I guess nothing good ever emanates from the east huh?

I am a tru Brit - and if you know you history you know that we thrived by assimilating and understanding other cultures.
