Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not only is this offensive and condescending to women, but offensive and discriminatory against men. I spoke to someone who said he was in charge at the shop and was basically laughed at.

Please can every man who reads this ring them and apply for the job? There's also solicitors a few doors up who will help you sue them.

In all seriousness though, this and the leering and catcalling on the Harringay part of Green Lanes must make it the most sexist street in Britain. It's 2015, about time this was stamped out for good.

I know.

I think (hope) that approach is working less and less.  They have to attract the women to attract the men and no amount of two for one drinks will get me near a place like that.  Not that I'm in the right age range - but I would say late teens/early 20s are even more sophisticated than my generation was and wouldn't really fall for that sort of thing.

Well let's hope these place disappear then but we could help that along by complaining about the advertising? They think it's fine and perhaps don't realise it's against the law.

Waste of time. Many people, myself included, have raised the issue with her and been branded racists. She won't get involved.
Lots of clubs have ladies nights where women are given free drinks, which then attracts men. I shudder at the thought now, but back in our student days Rudolphs in Tottenham in the mid-nineties used to entice us in with free drinks on a Sunday night and an "Exotic male dancer". Basically more women getting free drinks draws in more paying men to take advantage of them while they watch a steroidy bloke with a rubber band round his knob waving it in their faces. Nice.
I've previously asked why they only want women assistants (sweeper uppers) in the barbers. They said it's because it's a women's job and when I asked why they wouldn't want a man they laughed and asked if I was serious that I expected a man to want to do that job.

" a man rushed out from the Pub to call her names. It was not a compliment that he was paying her, just degrading insults. "

WTF??? That happened? place seems to have changed and i only live down the road - the hell is going on around there?

Doesn't make any sense - so guys basically hate women o that road?

That's a really sad story. Green Lanes can be a gauntlet of harassing males on some days.

However, the new places opening encourage a more female friendly clientele so hopefully that trend continues. Same with the nice new bright LED street lighting :)

The pub owner should - if the police and council get complaints about customers harassing women it could lead to a review of the licence.

Yes it happens to me all the time. Nearly every day. I'm not even that young but I'm blonde and that seems to mean I'm fair game.
Me too Lauren, every few days there's something. I'm nearly forty & worst things I've experienced were when I've been with my baby. Last year, mid afternoon opposite a school, two men walked towards me exposing themselves. As I got closer they started urinating over a car, as I walked past they started laughing & gesturing that they were going to urinate on my baby in her buggy. When I reported it to the police I was told it wasn't a crime because as they were urinating, their pensises couldn't have been errect & it therefore wasn't sexually motivated. I'm guessing that experience wouldn't have happened to my husband though.
That's just horrible Abi, I'm really sorry you had to experience that. I've also seen a lot of blokes stood outside shops or sat outside cafes grabbing their crotches and making gestures at each other when young girls of maybe 13 years old walk past them, some even in school uniform. It's disgusting. I've seen the other side of it too, "less attractive" women being boo'd at, laughed at or horrible gestures made. It makes me feel sick that this goes on in our neighbourhood unchallenged. What's worse though is men on here denying it and even trying to justify it. Really horrible.

Police in Camden are going to start fining people (men) £100 for urinating in public.  Haringey could do the same.
