Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

If you have any elderly neighbours please warn them of this scam

The victims in this case an elderly couple, reside in an address on Hewitt Road N8. They have a window cleaner who has not attended in approx. six weeks but is owed £5.00 from the last occasion.

On 30th March 2011 at approx. midday the suspect in this case knocked on their door and was greeted by both victim and informant.

The suspect explained that he was taking over from their regular window cleaner in a few weeks and was collecting money owed on behalf of the window cleaner.

The suspect had a book/list with him and the story seemed plausible to the victim, especially as the suspect asked for £5 which is how much was owed by them.

The suspect also stated that the neighbour of the victims owed £10 and the victim decided to pay on their behalf knowing that as he was on goods terms with them he could pay it and collect from them later.

The suspect’s story seemed plausible to the victims so they handed over the £15 total and the suspect left.

Later on the victim spoke to the neighbour who stated that they did not owe money. The victim then called the window cleaner and confirmed that they did not have anyone to collect money for them and they were not handing over their job to any other person(s).
