Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This morning I received the following invitation from the Friends of Fairland Park. It's extended to all in Harringay. I thought it was a graceful and unself-serving acknowledgement of the contribution others have put in to the park. But lets not forget the great work done by the Friends themselves.

YOU ARE INVITED TO THE FAIRLAND PARK SUMMER PARTY   The Friends of Fairland Park, (formerly the Falkland and Fairfax Open Space) would like to invite you to our Summer Party and celebration of the park's re-opening, on Sunday 18th July.

The Summer Party will be from 12 until 4.30pm, and will feature free activities including live music, a performance by Otiz Cannelloni, Dr Bike's maintenance surgery, art workshops, tennis coaching, bird-box making and more.

In partnership with Haringey Council, there will be a formal ribbon-cutting by children from North Harringay Primary and a speech by Cllr Gina Adamou at 3pm, to celebrate the re-opening of the park, after an extensive improvement programme.

The event marks the end of a very successful partnership project between Haringey Council, the Friends of Fairland Park and environmental charity Groundwork. The partners have been working for two years, since the removal of the log cabins, to consult with local residents, agree designs and fundraise the £270,000 for the improvements. Thanks to Haringey Council, the Big Lottery ‘Community Spaces’, the Veolia Environmental Trust, and The London Marathon Trust for all contributing to the scheme. The East London Community Foundation have also supported the Friends Group with the Summer Party and other community events in the park.

The new park has been an incredible success with extremely high usage since it reopened in early June. The park now contains exciting new play areas, refurbished football and tennis court, ‘active area’ with the first skater slider in Haringey and two fantastic pieces of public art made with the help of Harringay residents.

This is a chance for the Friends group to say thank you to all those in the local community who have supported this project throughout the years.

We hope you will be able to come and have a Pimms/beer/juice(!) with us and toast the new facilities at this revitalised community green space on the Harringay Ladder.

best wishes,

Frances Walsh

The Friends of Fairland Park
