In the University of Life, James, it probably corresponds to what Shakespeare's Jaques thought was the Sixth Age:
. . . . . . . . . .The sixth age shifts
into the lean and slippered pantaloon
with spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
his youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
for his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
turning again toward childish treble , pipes
and whistles in his sound .
An age, alas, now colonised by the maturing Baby Boomer who wouldn't be seen dead in slippers and who sports a manbag in place of a (colostomy)pouch. He keeps Fitness First in business and is a demon multi-geared cyclist on Wightman Road pavements in his desperate fight to stave off that final stage (sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.) Last thing he wants to do is attend Craft or Drama sessions in the Community Room or Gallery.
