Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

London Councils have just released their election website. Looking at Haringey's page, it's starting at how much the ground seems to have shifted here over the past dozen years.

I was thinking about this again today.

This shows Labour's total number of seats reducing by 12 at each of the last two elections. That's a huge turnaround in terms of share - from 91.5% in 1998 to 52% in 2006. If this trend were to continue we'd see a Liberal Democrat council with labour retaining only 18 seats against the Lib Dems' 39.

Sure, there are all sorts of variable in there, but nonetheless it's a stark message for Labour. It's a wonder we're not hearing a lot more from them.
That seems like a good result, Hugh - but how long will it take the 39 new proprietors of Animal Farm to grow remarkably like the 30 previous owners? (Sorry, Alan, of course you're excepted!)
A good sprinkling of Greens or Independents required as a leaven - but then they seem less keen than green.

I wonder how much much that 91.5% of 1998 owed to the Blair landslide effect after 1997 - reducing slightly by 2001 and markedly by 2005 ?
Agree. The most likely result seems to be a Lib/Dem council or a hung one. I'd really like to see some Green on the board as they could influence a hung council to have (dare I say it) something like properly scrutinised policies!
Gwarsh, I'm not suggesting that the trend will continue or suggesting it's predictive, but it's certainly striking.

A Lib-Lab sandwich leavened with Green. Mmmmm..........yummy................
