we've just moved house within the area and want to get our whole three bedroom house painted. does any have any experience as to how much this should cost us for a competent job? we want walls, ceilings and doors and skirting included. hallway/landing/stairs also to be included. we want the whole house done, but also interested in the price per room cost

It depends on the quality of finish you want. A good starting point is the building sheriff where you can find prices for comparison. E.g.http://m.buildingsheriff.com/?task=get&ihash=febc3c14bf&url...

Hello

I can recommend 2 painters and decorators both who have worked on my house inside and out.

One is Nick Roche   nick.roche@yahoo.com   His number is 07906349565 Nick is also a handy man

The other is Greg and his number is 07584200986  and 07747868361

The price depends on whether you want wood work, radiators etc painted  as well but I found both are very  reasonably priced and would definitely use them again. they will come and quote for the job

Susan

Budget for £750 per space plus materials, this should be applied to bathrooms/kitchens to bedrooms/ lounges. Then subtract or add on the condition of the walls/ ceilings( new plaster or moonscape) size of rooms, number of windows/ doors you have. then if you need paper stripping or applying - that will add to the cost per space. This is all assuming your going to get a really good decorator to sort it. Once it's all done - the next time (10 years or so and assuming kids and mates haven't taken lumps out of the walls) half the cost and you should be about there. Alternatively go to the pub and you'll always find a bloke at the bar who'll do the lot for 50 quid. Then double the first bit (above) to put it all right.
It all comes down to how much you think someone else should be earning - should take about a week for a man per space depending on all the above.
Sorry if all that sounds a bit spiked - it's not ment to be. but it All comes down to judgement and ability - yours and the decorator

By "space" do you mean £750 per room?

Yes. But as I said, price per space will depend on size of room, condition and what the client wants. You have to have a good idea of what you want first. Then get a decorator to pop round and give a written estimate including specification. Is he a one coat is good enough kind of guy - leaving paint spatters over the fridge or he's gonna do it properly and protect your stuff. Always get more than one estimate even if the decorator is recommended and never choose the cheapest. Material costs will depend if your a F&B/ Little Green kind of person or crown/dulux (big difference) . The initial question is, with respect, a little woolly. A bit like what size is a room? (Under stair toilet or double lounge).
